EKO Ranger 6

The oldest guitar in the collection - the Eko Ranger 6. Bought in 1970 from the long gone Scarths in Charing Cross Road for around £25. It weighs a ton due to the bolt on neck and its mounting, and the finish is bomb proof. After being left for over 25 years, we have cleaned and re-strung this old guitar and it stills plays OK, a bit metallic but not bad for 37 years old.

Part of the Takamine Supernatural series (made in Japan). Superb 12 string purchased in October 2007 from Peter Cook in West London. A 12 string has been missing from the collection so this was a nice find. Gigged straight away and is now part of the show (yes Byrds numbers!). Had to have a nut and saddle set up by Julian Clark at the Sevenoaks Guitar Centre, but Peter Cook's deals are so good I budgeted for this extra work in the price. These Japanese Takamines are good value if you can find them discounted (list price $2,300 in US!). This is fitted with the 'Cool Tube' Preamp that gives the guitar a very warm sound through our big PA . Details here

Bought in 1979 from Blanks in Kilburn. I gigged this guitar non stop for over 20 years until it needed a 'neck off' re-fret by the luthier Rob Ayleward. Still plays OK and I have become used to the sound of this type of guitar through an amp or PA.
{short description of image} Simon and Patrick

Fell in love with this little Parlour (Parlor in US) guitar made by Simon and Patrick in 2001. Purchased from PMT Music Romford and set up by Rob Ayleward - it sits in the lounge and has an easy life without any gigs. Very small body and little bass but a very sweet treble response and I love it for home practice
{short description of image}  Furch (Czech Republic)

My 50th Birthday present, this type of upmarket Furch is rerely seen in the UK. Its a well appointed OM style guitar and made to a very high standard indeed. Fitted with a Fishman pick up systems it sounds more like a proper acoustic guitar that my Ovation. Purchased in 2003 from Tom Anfield at Guitar Tree in Putney (another excellent luthier). Furch are a Czech company and have a budget range of guitars called Stanford which are very highly rated and available in the UK.
{short description of image}  Fender Squier MA1 3/4 size simple acoustic purchased from Greenwich Market for £40. I was after a really cheap acoustic to use as a travel guitar and this fitted the bill!
{short description of image}  £12 Uke - what a great litlle toy!, after tweaking the nut it plays great and George Formby impersonations are just a few strums away...if you dont own one, then get one and have a laugh, for that price you cant go wrong!
`{short description of image}  Hourglass or Appalachian Duclimer - just two notes; A and D...pretty simple really..or so you would think, but in the right hands these instruments can create complex pieces of music
